san diego.

as i sit and write this post, feeling bleary eyed and exhausted, i come up to nearly 40 hours without having been to bed. arriving home from 4th july celebrations, we packed and jumped in a cab at 3:45am. no time for sleep, we began the next day seamlessly.

after leaving our super friendly cab driver and walking into the terminal at 4am, we realized we were in the wrong terminal- and found ourselves walking to the other side of the domestic airport weighed down by our luggage. finally at the correct terminal, we checked in our baggage and made our way through security. they checked my wrists, and let me through security with a passing grade. i have clean wrists, i am obviously therefore not a terrorist. we waited in our gate, as the sun rose through the window. wow- it is ridiculously early.

five hours of sitting next to a jersey shore look-a-like later, i emerged from the plane at l.a.x airport with my dreams and a cardigan  hoodie. after waiting for our baggage at carriage 4, we were told it was at carriage 2. baggage now successfully collected, we met with sharon. mums friend from school, she was now based in san diego with the australian navy. meeting her, we hopped in the car for the 2 hour drive back to san diego.

we stopped at san clemente, and realised that our travel money cards were now being declined. we had slight panic that our cards had been wiped somewhere along the way, and tried the card a second time when we finished having lunch by the beach. declined again. by this point, we were sure that an arabian prince had taken off with our money, and we stopped at a starbucks to use their wifi and check our cards balance. all our money safely still in its place, we breathed a sigh of relief.

san clemente beach was beautiful- and i imagine would have been a fraction more beautiful had it not been drastically overcast and grey. nevertheless, we had a lovely walk along the pier. well fed, we packed into the car and drove the remaining hour and a bit back to san diego.

arriving in san diego, we were met with beautiful architecture and blue skies. two giant dogs met us at sharon's front door, with welcoming cuddles. a beautiful house, a home cooked meal and big comfortable beds saw us very happy little campers. now excuse me while i finally get some sleep!!
