a faaaaaaaaabulous day for a parade.

so a large portion of today was occupied by the new york pride parade. for this reason- i will let the photos do most of the talking (but not all).

people of all ages, races, genders and religions were out- donning their most fabulous attire in a sea of rainbow and glitter. the parade went down 5th avenue, and went for over five hours. a pretty impressive feat!

arriving right on the starting time, we realized that most if not all of the space along the barrier was taken by those who arrived hours prior. a little dishearted, mum tried to find a way i could view and photograph the parade. 'what about that?' she pointed to a garbage bin. you have to be kidding me. a french man already performing a balancing act on the bin next to me hoisted me up as mum held me from behind. after a bit of an uneasy wobbly start i was soon a pro. despite the odd homeless person clambering between my legs to fetch recyclable bottles from the bin.

we followed the parade down to the end, and found ourselves in greenwich village. we went to madison square park, and sat and rested after all the festivities. the area was still buzzing. mum bought home made pina colada on the way to the park from a man selling them out of an esky. can anyone say date rape!? the bottle being less than 250mL, three quarters of the way through and mum began to giggle. i got up to walk around the park.
'im going to stay here. i can't stand up'

the buskers in the park were very skilled- with ventriloquists, musicians and dance troops all performing. we sat and watched as the days heat was replaced with a light breeze. heading back towards greenwich village, we had a mediocre dinner at a restaurant right in the heart of the gay boys and girls. drinking and dancing- the place was a fantastic place for some top quality people watching. the people here really are fascinating.

my feet tired from balancing on a bin for five hours, we headed to duane reade and then home. in the pharmacy we met a girl from chicago.
'where y'all from, i absoloutely love your accent. it's so lovely!'
yeh, try listening to julia gillard for more than 5 minutes. then tell us how lovely our accent is...
