Travel Tubes

I tend to travel with nothing but carry-on luggage. I spent 6 weeks traveling through India with nothing but a small backpack. Something about being able to arrive at the airport later, not go through the pain of checking in luggage, and then breeze past all the chumps at the baggage carousel as they wait for their bags that are yet to arrive or worse, have been lost. There really is nothing better than traveling light.

Having nothing but carry-on ensures that I'm faster and more comfortable - faster in transit, packing and re-packing during travel and more comfortable with lighter, hands-free luggage.

The main problem with this? The 100ml limit on toiletries in carry-on! The solution? Travel Tubes.

Travel tubes are exactly what they sounds like - tubes that are used for travel. Filled up with whatever you need, they carry everything from body soap to conditioner and even condiments like ketchup and mayonnaise!

I have tried two different types of travel tubes: Manicare Travel Tubes (2pk) and GoToob Travel Tubes

First, the Manicare set. I bought this set in the chemist for a relatively inexpensive price (AUD 6.79) - with two tubes (89ml each), a clear resealable package and little transparent labels (conditioner, shampoo, body lotion etc.), so you can stick them on and know what's in your tubes (the last thing you want is to confuse your mayonnaise and your moisturiser!).

These tubes are quite good. The labels are helpful and when I had shampoo and conditioner in them, they were great to throw into their transparent package and pack them away without worry of them spilling. However, they are made of a hard plastic, making them very difficult to squeeze. Because of this, you can't use them well when they are nearly empty as you simply cannot reach the product. Also, the stickers can be easily lost and once you've stuck on a label, there's a bit of a process in changing labels when you change the contents of the tube.

Then I found the GoToob Travel Tubes and my experience in traveling with limited liquids changed forever. These travel tubes are fantastic. They are much more pricy than the Manicare set (with prices varying from AUD 8.98 - 12.19 each depending on size), but this is a classic case of getting what you pay for. They come in 3 different size options - Small (37ml), Medium (55ml) and Large (88ml), and a range of colors.

They are made of a soft silicon, meaning you can get every last drop out of them. They have a wide opening so they are easy to fill and clean. Lastly, they have an "ID-window" on the collar that helps your remember what's inside, meaning you can change it whenever you change the liquid inside. These durable tubes are a pleasure to use and I'm yet to have any issues with leakage.

Verdict: Although both Travel tubes do their jobs and don't leak, I would certainly go with the GoToob Travel Tubes. These tubes are worth every cent, and make your 100ml limitation in carry-on a breeze.

Happy Traveling!
