We spend our time in the Kerala district in three places – Fort Kochi,
Allapuzha beach and cruising the backwaters on a houseboat. The images more or
less speak for themselves- with lovely weather and long lazy days. We decide
the café in Fort Kochin is where we will live out the rest of our days, eating
their delicious thick toast and butter and sipping away on their ice tea. Jakob
lends a hand to the fisherman by the water as they use the giant Chinese
fishing nets to catch fish, pulling at rocks attached rope in order to get the
contraption back out of the water.
At the backwater we arrive late to the dock to choose a houseboat, with
most of them being hired already or incredibly expensive. Whilst deciding what
to do and almost giving up, the heavens present us with an Austrian and French
girl also looking for a houseboat for a night. We decide to share a boat, and
spend the time lounging, playing with fisherman’s children and watching the
beautiful backwaters float by. We stop just before sunset and get off the boat,
making it to the rice fields just in time to see the sun descend and paint a
fiery red sunset across the sky. The time in Kerala is peaceful and largely
uneventful compared to what the north offered. It provides time to appreciate
the different landscape the south offers, and reflection on the trip we have
had as it draws to a close.
